Description
TALES FROM MY HUT
René Philombe desires not only to reawaken people; he also wants them to recognise the equi-valence of their own selfhood in others – that is the announced goal of his writing. For him, Afri-can problems are human problems, because he is convinced that not skin colour but culture determines an individual’s identity.
In any society where people are obsessed by the blind and selfish pursuit of money or status, the result will be the same alienation, loneliness, anxiety.
However, Philombe believes that there is a way out of this dilemma. « Men are marching toward a universal brotherhood », he once said « universal brotherhood is the basis of all true culture ». Born in suffering and compassion, it is this humanistic spirit which animates the stories and anecdotes in Tales from my Hut.
